During the summer, at the sites of deer and moose carcasses, one can find Turkey Vultures picking over the remains. These large birds have distinctive red-fleshed heads, large nostrils and hooked beaks. They’re carrion eaters and are no threat to mice in general, but they’re often seen as an ill omen. The presence of a turkey vulture means wolves or wolverines soon follow.
